Course Update on 5th Feb 2026
The greens are currently suffering from melting out disease, caused by high humidity and wet/dry conditions. This is a two-stage disease, starting as leaf spot and becoming highly infectious as fungal spores move to the crown and roots, causing the turf to shut down in patches. Spores can spread by wind, irrigation, foot traffic, and vehicle movement.
What we are doing:
- Fungicide applications to eradicate and prevent further spore loading
- Raised mowing height
- Verti-cutting the crown to aerate
- Sanding and fertilizer applications (seaweed and low nitrogen) to gently boost plant immunity
- Following up with needle tine aeration to promote stronger roots
- Long-term plan to introduce more tolerant turf species to withstand unfavorable conditions
